Annual ICC Awards Presented at Spring Consultation

JNF accepts ICC Award.

Rebecca Kahn representing JNF accepts the ICC Outstanding Collaborative Project Award, presented by Andy Borans, Executive Director of AEPi.

In an effort to recognize and encourage further collaboration, and broaden awareness of the breadth of Israel education and advocacy initiatives that exist on campuses today, the ICC presented several awards at the spring ICC Consultation on May 21, 2009.

The Outstanding Collaborative Project Award is awarded to an ICC member organization for a project or initiative that required significant collaboration and cooperation with other ICC member organizations and/or the broader community and significantly impacted the campus Israel environment. The recipient of the 2008-2009 Outstanding Collaborative Project Award is Jewish National Fund, for their Alternative Winter Break: Greeks Build Israel trip.  JNF partnered with the ICC, ZBT, AEPi, AEPhi, and SAM to recruit 40 Jewish fraternity and sorority students to participate in a one week community service trip to Israel.

The Outstanding Student Initiative Award is awarded to a campus group or an individual student for a project or initiative that required significant collaboration and cooperation with other campus or local community groups and significantly impacted their campus Israel environment. The recipient of the 2008-2009 Outstanding Student Initiative Award is the Chicago Friends of Israel group at the University of Chicago, for their successful campus mobilization to enhance support for Israel in the face of negativity from Israel’s detractors following Operation Cast Lead.

The Jeffrey Ross Memorial Award for Israel Awareness is awarded to an individual or organization external to the ICC that has significantly raised the issue of Israel education and advocacy on campus within the agenda of the Jewish community. The recipient of the 2007-2008 Jeffrey Ross Memorial Award for Israel Awareness is David Makovsky.  Under the auspices of the ICC and with the generous support of the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation and an anonymous donor, David visited 27 college campuses in the past two academic years. His willingness to travel, often to difficult-to-reach destinations and on fairly short notice, combined with his genuine enjoyment of working with students and his skill at presenting facts about the Middle East, has made him a true asset to the pro-Israel movement, and a most deserving recipient of this award.
