SCANI UPDATE

As part of the newly launched Student Coalition Against Nuclear Iran (SCANI), students on campuses nationwide are taking action to oppose Iran’s efforts to acquire nuclear weapons and raise the profile of the Iranian threat on their campuses.

At the University of Virginia, first-year Joel Taubman wrote an opinion piece for the school’s student newspaper. Indiana University students have between circulating a petition among student leaders and the general population that they plan to send to Washington and Wall Street. Ohio State University students have also circulated a petition.

Harvard University students traveled to Washington to lobby alumni congressmen and senators on Iran and on April 22, 35 students from Princeton University will do the same. Students at Washington University in St. Louis have also lobbied their local congressman. Additionally, a rally has been tentatively planned for May on the campus of the University of Western Ontario.

In February Hillel and the Israel on Campus Coalition (ICC) launched SCANI as a student-run network that will oppose Iran’s efforts to acquire nuclear weapons and raise the profile of the Iranian threat on their campuses.
