The Anti-Defamation League is pleased to announce the availability of Israel: A Guide for Activists – newly revised and fully updated.
As in previous editions, the Activist's Guide is aimed at individuals in the Jewish community who know they want to "do something" to support Israel, but may not have the know-how to be active advocates or do not feel they have read access to relevant information. The Activist’s Guide provides both substantive "talking points", as well as practical "how-to" guidance.
Sections include:
- Tools for Advocacy: Advocating to Elected Officials: pointers on how to effectively reach out to your elected officials; Advocating to the Media: pointers on how to assess media coverage, how to write a letter-to-the-editor, as well as the "do's and don'ts" in contacting the media; and Advocating on Campus: pointers on effective campus advocacy and resources.
- Glossary of Key Terms/Events in Israel’s History: Intended to give readers concise background on 28 key terms and events such as Zionism, Israel’s security barrier, disengagement, Palestinian refugees and more.
- Responses to Common Inaccuracies About Israel: Full responses to 27 common anti-Israel assertions such as “Israel is an apartheid state,” “Jews unfairly label anyone who criticizes Israel as an anti-Semite,” “Palestinians have a right of return under international law to return to their former homes in Israel,” and “Israel is not interested or prepared to make meaningful concessions to achieve peace with the Palestinians.”
- Key Dates in Israel’s History: A chronology of key dates from the publication of Herzl’s Zionist treatise “The Jewish State” through the March 6, 2008 terrorist attack on the Merkaz Harav Yeshiva in Jerusalem.
- Select Online Resources: Internet links to news, government and think tanks for more information about Israel and the conflict.
