Benji Lovitt is a comedian and writer living in Jerusalem, Israel. He translates his love for Israel and Jewish life into a hilarious and educational stand-up comedy act for all audiences. By deconstructing the details of Israeli culture and the immigrant experience in Israel, Benji’s energy and enthusiasm will make you laugh out loud as you look at daily life in the Middle East in a completely new light.
In addition to performing in comedy clubs in America and Israel, he has entertained countless groups such as Birthright NEXT, Nefesh B’Nefesh, Hillels, Jewish Federations, Israel Bonds, Tel Aviv University, and more.
In a world where Israel hasbara (advocacy) is crucial, Benji advocates in his own way, putting a smile on your face while shedding light on El Al security, Israeli hospitality, and exactly what makes American and Israeli Jews different from each other.
After spending a life-changing year in Israel on Young Judaea Year Course, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where he was an active member of the Jewish student community. Five subsequent years in a high-tech career were enough; Benji made the rewarding jump to the Jewish professional world and hasn’t looked back. His experiences working at the Israeli Consulate in Atlanta and Young Judaea helped convince him to move to Israel where he has been happily living since 2006.
Benji’s writing and humor have been featured in numerous publications including Jerusalem Post, Haaretz, Ynet, the Jewish Daily Forward, the Atlanta Jewish Times, PresenTense Magazine, and more, and his blog has developed a huge following around the world. He has also appeared on the Israeli TV show “Hayom L’Machar” and has been interviewed on 102 FM/Radio Tel Aviv.
Following up on his successful eleven-show tour in November, American-Israeli comedian Benji Lovitt will be back in the US between February 18th and March 1, 2010. Benji’s hilarious show about life in Israel is a must-have user guide to life in the Middle East for anyone considering a visit to the Holy Land.
