The personal involvement has always been a dilemma for Journalist Danny Zaken. With more than eighteen years, as an Israeli field reporter, it is a way of life.
Danny covered terror attacks in which neighbors and friends were wounded, and as a Palestinian affairs reporter he met with Hamas terrorists. He also covered religious stories which became personal when his American born wife needed have a second conversion because the Israeli rabbinate did not accept her reform conversion.
Although Jewish, he found himself dressed in Moslem prayer garments in the heart of the Temple Mount, inspecting the ruins of the Second Temple archaeological findings with Moslem authorities.
Danny Zaken was born in Jerusalem in 1964 to a Sephardic family with seven children. He remembers the Six Day War when his mother carried him to a bomb shelter. He served in the IDF as a tank commander and every year does reserves duty, often in the territories. His last service was during the second Lebanon war, and for this service he received an Award of Excellence from his brigade commander.
In 1990 Danny graduated from the Hebrew University with a BA in International Affairs and Political Science. While a student he wrote and edited the student University magazine.
In 1991 he started working at the Israeli news agency "ITIM".
In 1994 Danny began working for to the Israeli radio station "Reshet Bet", the most popular news radio station in Israel. He served as the Territories reporter for a year, and has also covered economic affairs, crime, and religious and political subjects.
Today he serves as Reshet Bet’s news editor and he is also a reporter, broadcaster and commentator for several different issues.
