The Israel Government Fellows Program (IGF) is a MASA program initiative of the Menachem Begin Heritage Center for exceptional individuals with at least a first degree, some professional experience and/or a Masters degree. The IGF Program provides the only opportunity for non-Israelis to work within the Israeli government system and combines internships in Israeli government offices with educational seminars and Hebrew language instruction.
The program’s duration is ten months and is based in Jerusalem. The fellowship consists of one month of orientation, including daily seminars and a daily spoken language Ulpan (Hebrew school). For the remaining nine months, each fellow will work closely with a government official in a Ministry or other government branch, depending upon the participant’s particular interests. Fellows will also participate in extracurricular weekly seminars as well as joint activities with Israeli counterparts. Participants will travel throughout the country, and will meet with Israeli officials, policy makers, journalists, as well as a wide range of public figures.
Application Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree plus a minimum of two years work experience OR a Master's
- Degree in a related field (different internship opportunities will be available depending on the level of academic achievement and the nature of work experience)
- Previous experience in activism or leadership roles
- Ability to work and live independently
- Age 22-30
- Fluent English
- MASA eligibility
Dates of the Program:
20 August 2008 – 30 June 2009
Costs:
The cost of the program is US$10,000, to be paid in installments (full details upon acceptance of application), which includes housing and all the seminars, workshops and trips. Fellows will receive a small stipend that will also cover monthly transportation costs.
